Cupcakes and Doughnuts

Noah and I had a really fun day today. We spent most of the morning out with Nana downtown. We took Noah to the Children's Museum where he spent the better part of an hour playing in the room with the boats and the water. I truly believe he would have stayed all day if we had let him! As we were leaving Noah looked around, realized where we were and said, "Let's get a cupcake!"

How he knew that we were downtown near Cupcake is beyond me. He is like my own personal GPS device - especially when it comes to things like dessert.

So anyway, we took him to Cupcake and he got a vanilla cupcake with chocolate icing and sprinkles, and proceeded to inform me, "Mama, this is lunch!"

I am waiting with bated breathe to receive my Mother of the Year award.

And on top of that Wes, Noah, and I made a trip to Krispy Kreme after dinner tonight. At least Noah was really only interested in watching the assembly line of doughnuts - he barely touched the one we bought him.
See, he was only holding it up to pose for pictures and then he handed it back to me. I guess he had consumed enough sugar for the day.

I am so happy to have days like this. No tantrums, just enjoying fun outings with Noah and being ever amused with his take on the world!

Just Being Crazy

So, recently Noah has come up with all sorts of ridiculous stuff to say to us. For example, when he is being reprimanded his favorite thing to say is, "But I was just...(fill in the blank)" Like, in response to don't touch that, I will get I was just lookin' at it Mama. Or, if I say what are you doing in my closet by yourself trying to open all the dresser drawers?, he will scrunch up his face, searching for his lie and say, I was just tryin' to be quiet mama. Yeah, right.

But my all time favorite of his new "I was just" answers, is this latest gem.

"Noah, we do not jump from the coffee table to the couch. It is dangerous."

"But, I was just being crazy Mama."

Isn't that the truth!

Just so you know....

I have started a separate blog that will just be mine and mainly focus on running and motherhood. For those of you who yawn while reading my posts about running - rejoice, you won't have to anymore! For those of you (and that may just be you Priscilla) who get a kick out of the running focused rambling - you can visit my new blog by clicking on the link to the left.

Oh, and here's some other news regarding my son. This is a conversation I had with him recently while listening to the radio in the car.

Noah: Momma what song is this?

Me: (shamefully) This is Britney Spears, bud.

Noah: (thoughtfully, and with conviction) I like Ms. Britney!

Just so you know, the rumor must be true. Britney is back.

Winter Daze

So it finally decided to get cold here in Charleston. It finally feels like winter and I am remembering why I hate winter. Cause winter, well this is what winter brings....

This is the face of a child who has been told that it is too wet and too cold to play outside, and thus, has taken matters into his own hands. If you're bored why not put on a bike helmet and jump on the blow up mattress in the guest room that Mom has forgotten to put away. Oh, and enlist Dad to join in the fun. (Too bad he didn't wear his helmet...)

Anyway, I figured if he wanted to jump we could probably do better than the air mattress. So today we joined Clayton and her Mom for an outing to Ready Set Jump with two whole rooms of jump houses to play in. Noah had a blast jumping and running (and falling) all over the place.

Noah and Clayton also enjoyed the giant blow up slide. Clayton was very brave and went down by herself right away.

Noah, on the other hand, had to go down with me once before he would brave it on his own. And, even then, he maintained a look of terror on every trip down.

It was a great way to spend the morning, especially in this cold weather. Of course after playing so hard, Noah was really pooped and only seemed to have the energy to do one thing this evening...
relax in front of a movie with Dad!

Reason #835 Why My Son is Weird.....

Today I am watching my friend Ashley's little boy, Knox. He is almost a year older than Noah so he is better at sharing etc, but all in all they play pretty well together. Plus, Noah is super excited to have him over to play. Well, a little bit ago, I found Knox in the downstairs hallway playing intently with some race cars. Something that is usually Noah's favorite thing to do, but Noah was nowhere to be seen.

"Where is Noah?" I asked him. He shrugged his shoulders, fully engrossed in the race cars. Then I heard Noah yell,

"I'm right here Mama!" I looked up the stairs to see him walking down the hallway carrying a huge strand of colored Christmas lights to the guest room.

"I'm just movin' these lights Mama!" I stood staring as he deposited the lights, walked back to the box that is supposed to already be in the attic, and grabbed some more lights to bring to the guest room.

"Yep, I just movin' these lights for you, okay!"

Why, oh why, is he not playing cars with his friend?

I really, really wonder about him sometimes.

Resolution Run

So, the crazy holiday season is over and I am stopping to take a breath. Not that it wasn't a blast, and not that it didn't go out with a bang. Wes and I had a fabulous New Years Eve with friends - thanks Bebe for staying with Noah so we could have the whole night to relax and enjoy ourselves!

I have decided that I will make no resolutions this year as they almost never last past the second week in January. Instead I am focusing on achieving certain goals in 2009 - there, that sounds better than, "my new year's resolution is...." Anyway, one of my goals is to run the ING Georgia Half Marathon in 2 hours. That means shaving 30 minutes off of last year's time which sounds totally crazy but I think I can do it. It will mean hard work but I am okay with that. In fact Wes and I officially start our training schedule for that race today, so here goes nothing!

We decided to kick off our months of training with a 5k this past Saturday. It was a Resolution Run (oops, sorry, I mean a "goal setting" run) downtown that sounded fun so we loaded up Noah - and Bebe and Aunt J - and headed to the starting line. I really wanted to run faster than my last 5k time but I was unsure because I only really started running on my newly healed foot about a month and a half ago and that has been sporadic at best. I wanted to see a 26 in the minute column of my time instead of a 27 and I decided to go for it. Long story short, it hurt really bad, but I came in at 26:50, shaving a whole minute off of my 5k PR. It helps that Wes ran with me and pushed me when he could tell that I was struggling. Oh, and no matter what he tells you, I did not yell at him mid-race! Okay, maybe I did but I was seeing spots and about to hurl and therefore not responsible for my actions.

Anyway, that is why I think I can achieve my half marathon goal three months from now. If I train right, and as long as I have my husband "motivating" me, I think it is possible. As for my other 2009 goals... I haven't decided yet. Well, I take that back. One other goal I have is to potty train my son without going insane...somehow that running thing seems much easier.
